The Music of Reginald Gaylord Rediscovered

Brooklyn, NY
February 23, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROPE AND PULLEY RECORDS, still in its infancy as a record label, has already begun to make its mark on the 21st century music scene with a release that will go down as a heroic act of historical preservation.

Tragically overlooked genius Reginald Gaylord has yet to gain the recognition due his output, mostly because of the absence of surviving recordings. Many of the master tapes not destroyed by Gaylord himself met a fate perhaps much worse: they were banished to evidence lockers somewhere deep within the recesses of the Federal Communication Commission of the U.S. governement after being seized in a series of raids on the composer's Oklahoma City residence and other production facilities associated with the underground television movement.

After Gaylord's presumed passing in 1994 (although his death has never been confirmed, he has not been seen since the airing of the final brilliant episode of The Blame Infusion) his music was essentially silenced. Only the famous "Shawnee Notebook," so named because it was discovered at the composer's sister's home in Shawnee, Oklahoma has kept his legacy alive. This notebook, filled with scores, descriptions, and recording notes, all in Gaylord's own hand, became a kind of samizdat passed from musician to musician for the past ten years, greatly influencing a generation of artists.

Finally, ROPE AND PULLEY RECORDS has taken the step of bringing these compositions to life with the release of The Music of Reginald Gaylord. ROPE AND PULLEY RECORDS labelmates DJ Anton Webern of Webern and the Gynoids and sound collage artist Ssstutz have collaborated to faithfully recreate the soundtracks to several of the underground television programs scored by the troubled legend.

Four outstanding tracks, all culled from Gaylord's work on action series The Blame Infusion are available for listening, along with historical notes (available via the "lyrics" function on the audio player) and rare period photographs at myspace.com/reginaldgaylord.

1. Theme from the Blame Infusion
2. Agent Rocket's Memory Theme
3. Periscope Depth
4. Exotica, Espionage, Economics

"Words cannot express how excited I am to see this labor of love finally come to fruition." said ROPE AND PULLEY RECORDS founder and president D. Stuart Mullins. "I can only hope that this recording finds its place on the shelves of the serious music enthusiast alongside the indispensable works of such geniuses as Prince, Harry Partch, and Robert Smith."
